Una delle tecniche più complesse della lavorazione del polymerclay è la realizzazione di sfere cave.

Ogni artista in realtà ha la sua tecnica, che varia con la persona e l'esperienza, la sensibilità estetica e il risultato che si vuole ottenere.

Si possono ottenere perle cave per renderle più leggere, o per creare effetti di trasparenza con il translucent clay; pendenti anche molto grandi che lascino intravedere altre forme, texture o colori all'interno, in un gioco di spazi; bracciali rigidi vuoti all'interno forati per giocare con la luce e richiamare coralli, vegetali o pietre.

E' sempre una sfida alla gravità e alla materia, prova di quanto meravigliosamente versatile sia l'argilla polimerica: si può imitare la natura in uno stile selvaggio, boschivo, marino, spaziale.. oppure, per chi ha una sensibilità più lineare, dar vita a forme geometriche, stilizzate, futuristiche nel gioco di pieni e vuoti, magari sottolineando la purezza delle linee con scelte cromatiche tutto-bianco o tutto-nero in capolavori di "ingegneria".

Per me l'ispirazione alla natura è una cifra estetica fondamentale, perciò ho voluto usare le sfere cave, tra le altre cose, per realizzare una serie di gioielli ispirati sì alle forme naturali, ma questa volte non a quelle vive e organiche di piante e animali: bensì al delicato equilibrio di perfezione geometrica e imperfezione casuale delle formazioni rocciose del mondo minerale.

Ho riprodotto e reinventato i miei globi cavi ispirandomi ai meteoriti e alle forme tondeggianti, ma irregolari, dei pianeti; una sfera perfetta e liscia non sarebbe nel mio stile :) inoltre questi corpi spaziali si formano per scontri, violenti impatti ed erosioni millenarie: ecco perchè la loro superficie è ruvida e percorsa da crepe, avvallamenti e cavità.

Ho giocato con i colori per dare un tocco più leggero e allegro alle forme, e studiato composizioni nuove e originali creando dei gioielli unici, inusitati e che stupiscono.

 La tecnica usata per questi globi irregolari consiste nel ricoprire una pallina di materiale leggero e fragile con un cerchio di argilla ben compattato; in seguito si praticano i fori con gli appositi strumenti per modellare, assottigliandone o ispessendone i bordi per creare l'effetto desiderato. La superficie è poi premuta con carta vetrata, tessuto, carta spiegazzata per dare la finitura ruvida, e percorsa con fori, segni e impressioni dati dalle punte di diversi strumenti professionali ma anche trovati per casa come viti, stecchini, rondelle per realizzare la texture. Infine tutto è cosparso con polveri di mica metallizzate per accentuare i dettagli.
Dopo la cottura l'anima interna è rimossa e la superficie verniciata con finitura opaca per un effetto naturale, oppure con resina bicomponente per vetrificare con un risultato extralucido e ancora più "spaziale".

Vi sono naturalmente altre tecniche, a seconda del risultato che si vuole ottenere: perle lisce, pendenti a più strati, trasparenze, bangles eccetera. Ma di queste parlerò in altri post :)

One of the more complex techniques of processing polymerclay is the realization of hollow spheres.

Each artist actually has his technique, which varies with the person and the experience, aesthetic sensibility and the result desired.

You can obtain hollow beads to make them lighter, or to create transparency effects with translucent clay; pendants even very large hiding other forms, textures or colors inside, playing with space and matter; bangles empty inside with holes to play with light and recall corals, plants or stones.

It 's always a challenge to gravity and matter, evidence of how polymer clay is wonderfully versatile: it can imitate nature in wild, forest, marine, space style .. or, for those with a more linear sensitivity, give life to geometric shapes, stylized, futuristic in the game of full and empty, maybe emphasizing the purity of the lines with color choices all-white or all-black creating "engineering" masterpieces.

For me the inspiration to nature is my aesthetic key, so I wanted to use the hollow spheres, among other things, to make a series of jewelry inspired by natural forms, but this time not to those living and organic of plants and animals: but the delicate balance of geometric perfection and random imperfection of rock formations in the mineral world.

I reproduced and reinvented my hollow globes inspired by meteorites and the rounded, but irregular, shapes of the planets; a perfect and smooth sphere would not be my style :) also these space bodies are formed by collisions, violent impacts and millenary erosion: that's why their surface is rough and covered with cracks, hollows and cavities.

I played with the colors to give a touch of light and cheerful to the shapes, and designed new and original compositions by creating unique jewelry, unusual and amazing.

 The technique used for these irregular globes consists of covering a ball of light and fragile material with a circle of clay, well compacted; then drilling with the appropriate modeling tools, making the edges thicker or thinner to create the desired effect. The surface is then pressed with sandpaper, cloth, crumpled paper to give the rough finish, and covered with holes, signs and impression with the tips of several professional tools, but also things found at home like screws, toothpicks, washers to achieve texture. Finally everything is sprinkled with mica metallic powders to accentuate the details.

After baking, the inner core is removed and the surface coated with a matte finish for a natural look, or with two-component resin to vitrify with a high gloss result and even more "futuristic".

There are of course other techniques, depending on the result to be obtained: smooth beads, pendants with multiple layers, transparencies, bangles etcetera. But about that I'll write in other posts :)
